Lectures in Uzhgorod University
Input to the Restoration Ecology course at Uzhgorod University

For the past five years, we have collaborated with Dr. Roman Kish, a professor of Botany at Uzhhorod University in the Zakarpattia Province of Ukraine. During the last three years, Dr. Kish and his students have persevered in their work despite the challenges posed by war, which prevents us from visiting them.
Recently, Prof. Kish introduced a groundbreaking course at Uzhhorod University: Restoration Ecology. This course is exceptional, especially in the context of the European Union’s recent adoption of the Nature Restoration Law, as very few universities offer similar programs. It is crucial to have such courses to implement the law effectively.
Prof. Kish invited us, ABC SDG, to contribute our expertise on wetland restoration to his new course. While classes are conducted in Ukrainian, a temporary compromise was reached to deliver lectures in Russian, accompanied by English slides, as students are not yet prepared for English lectures. This exception was approved by the Faculty administration to prioritize the acquisition of knowledge, and we fully recognize the effort this compromise entailed.
The dedication of the students is evident; they attend lectures in a protected, safe auditorium in the cellar, demonstrating their commitment to learning. Their engagement was remarkable, with attentive participation and insightful questions.
We extend our gratitude to Professor Roman Kish and the administration of Uzhhorod University for this opportunity. Below, you will find abridged recordings of the lectures and presentations available in PDF format.
