Our President, Tatiana Minayeva, has been awarded the “Women Changemakers in the World of Wetlands” award of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
She is recognized for her leadership and commitment to conserving and protecting wetlands. She worked hard to unlock resources for wetland conservation, coalesce public support for wetlands, and train and mentor young wetland specialists.
The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has been implemented since 1971 and has 172 State Members. It is a global treaty for the conservation and wise use of wetlands. It also focuses on communication and education regarding the importance of wetlands and on international cooperation in this area. Today, the Ramsar List is the world’s largest protected area network. There are over 2,500 Ramsar Sites on the territories of 172 Convention Contracting Parties across the world, covering more than 2.5 million square kilometers.
